America is an idea.
& it is a democracy.
& it has defended freedom.
& it is made of moonshots.
& named in the belief we could be United.
& these States are in perpetual yearning
of becoming a more perfect union.

America is an experiment.
& it is a complex history.
& it was founded on stolen lands.
& it enslaved peoples to build this economy.
& this American experiment works. (For some).
& it does not. (For others).
And do we see?
It’s every person for yourself.
And yet, do we also see?
Our suffering is shared.
And our salvation, intertwined.

In 1776, the colonies severed
from The British Empire in
a declaration of independence.
In 2026, we can design and choose
how we commemorate that revolt.
America was—and can be again—a creative act.
We have within us the ability to do the work,
and strengthen the muscles,
to build the America that has never fully been.
A nation that still we have
the audacity to imagine—
and the will to create.

In 2026, we
will commemorate
the 250th year
of the United States of America.

It could be a time of great division—or a once-in-a-lifetime moment to reckon, to honor, to heal.

We can—if we so choose—use the next five years to build an America big enough to hold us all.

In honor of the artists and photographers helping see our country anew. Beacons of hope (Statue of Liberty by Brandon Mowinkel) and bearers of change (Eye For Ebony) invite us to build a home for all (Home by Keith Yamashita), realized on a monumental land (Gautier Salles) that remembers its ancestors (Madonna ThunderHawk by Flora Hanitijo for www.warriorwomenfilm.com) alongside the sacrifices of those who protect it (Jessica Gray by Platon). This is a call for new connections, for honoring traditions (Phinehas Adams), and for endless exploration (Dan Winters).

To do so in

us to build a shared future.
